Day 12 of the Juneathon and I’m still rocking it. I only missed one day (Day 9) but it wasn’t my fault. I swear. I’ll give the whole run down (or lack of) tomorrow.
Today (Juneathon – Day 12) was Track Tuesday and man, my body was balking. Though my legs were feeling pretty sexy, they did not want to run. My butt hurt too. You know you had a good work-out the day before when you ass hurts. Gotta love squats for that. Gets me in the glutes every time.
As for my sprints, I tried. I really did. I honestly don’t think I will ever get fast enough to move beyond 4 x 0.25 sprints. I think I will start adding on in the fall.
Speaking of adding on, I stumbled upon this sprint triathlon training plan that recommends biking, swimming and running for 20-30 minutes, which means I’m not swimming enough and I have to start swimming more laps. I also think I need to make one day just a swim day, like maybe Friday.
But not this Friday. I have to have blood drawn for a follow-up to my physical. yay. That should be interesting. Hopefully, my vitamin D is in a normal range.
Speaking of Vitamin D, my runner blogger friend, Jill, shared an interesting article from Runner’s World. The article stated that “Eighty-five percent of athletes at the University of Montana have sub-optimal vitamin D levels in the winter”. Yep, that’s me. I always schedule my physical in January to learn that I’m Vitamin D deficient and need to take supplements. Then the days become longer, I start running in the sun more and I get sloppy and forget to take my supplements but my levels always seem fine in the spring/summer.
I’ll guess we’ll find out a week on Friday.
The article also stated the benefits of beer and blueberries. Of course, not combined but I prefer to think of the two together since I love Sea Dog Bluepaw Blueberry Wheat Ale. Seriously though, there are some real benefits for runners to eat at least a cup of blueberries a day and drink at least one beer a day. This means, I need to stop ordering my Sea Dog without blueberries. My training depends on it.
I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m saying it again because I freaking love Sea Dog Blue Paw. Not only does Sea Dog Bluepaw taste great, but it has only 75 calories and 0 carbs (Less filling). No one ever believes me, but the Livestrong Gods said so. And now it’s a double whammy because of the beer and blueberry healing properties. I’ll drink to that.
Speaking of low calorie alcoholic beverages, I noticed quite a few bloggers were reviewing Mic Ultra Light Cider and I want to know how the heck did I miss out on that campaign?! Damn. It has half the calories of a regular cider and I’m really curious as to how it tastes.
I first spotted the Mic Ultra Light Cider ad in Rachel Ray Every Day and I looked everywhere for it (Total Wine, Target, Publix, Wal-Mart, etc) but couldn’t find it. I just checked the site… (Why do beer sites force you to enter your birthdate? Does anyone else think this is ridiculous?) …and all the gas stations in my area have it. How weird is that?! A gas station is the last place I’d look. I should have asked the 19 year old me who scored beer coolers at the gas station. She would have known the low calorie cider was there.
Speaking of finding cool things in odd places, I found Australian Gold SPF 50 at Walgreens. Ever since the Mole Patrol at the Miles for Moffitt race told me about the skin damage on my chest, I have been searching for Australian Gold with a high SPF. Why Australian Gold? Because I flipping LOVE the way it smells. See, I love The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter because I love that eternal beach smell. “Hi. I didn’t come from the beach, but I smell like I did.”
Last year, I remembered seeing Australian Gold SPF 50 at the beach and decided to pick some up at my Target. Nope. At Publix? Nope. Well poop. I wasn’t about to drive all the way down to Clearwater just for sun block. So when I found the Australian Gold SPF30 spray, that would have to do. Bleh. I don’t like spray.
But then I found the SPF 50 lotion at Walgreens while searching for liquid glycerin. Why glycerin? Because I want to make homemade bubble solution with my kids. But guess what? Now, I can’t find glycerin anywhere. *sigh*
At least I know where to find that lovely eternal beach smell. Life really is a beach.
