Random Thoughts about a Crazy World, Crazy Love, the Mom Squad, the Miles and Track Tuesday

Thirteen years ago, I was teaching at an elementary school is a migrant community.   After the Columbine shooting, my school district put lockdown drills into place.  We practiced those drills along with fire drills and tornado drills.

Sometime after that, the lockdown drill became a reality when a person ran through our school’s soccer field wielding a gun and shots were fired. We (the teachers) had to turn off our lights and hide with our students in our classrooms. We had to be brave for our students. We had to protect them and these students came from horrible homes and probably saw this type of thing regularly. School was their safe place, but not that day.

As an educator, I can’t even imagine how the teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School felt that fateful Friday last week. I can’t even imagine what went through their minds as they tried to be brave and protect their students who thought school was their safe place. As parent, I just want to hold my babies and never let go.

God bless the teachers, the survivors and the families as they deal with their loss. Hopefully, schools can be safe places again and maybe the powers that be will make common sense gun control as common place as lockdowns.

Also thirteen years ago, I married my best friend.  It’s been a crazy, mad wild ride but I wouldn’t change one day of it, especially since my husband still has a few surprises up his sleeve.  He bought me this mirror from IKEA that I’d been eyeing for the longest time and wrote a message on it that says, “Denise, Happy Anniversary. You are beautiful and I love you. xxxx ♥ ♥”

His present is…er…um….on backorder.  Yep, that’s it!

Speaking of surprises, my husband pulled a doozy on me yesterday.  He high jacked my email and contacted Joe of 10 News to ask if he would to announce our anniversary on the air during our Moms Squad segment.  Watch it here and check out my totally surprised expression at the end.

On the subject of the Mom Squad, Joe has asked Marisa, Jenny and me to be his regular team every week, so we are officially The Mom Squad, which of course means we need our own coffee mugs since we’re part talk show television.  Plus, if I was holding a coffee mug, it would keep me from speaking with my hands.  Here’s last week segment.

I’m really struggling mentally with my marathon training.  I’m just so tired lately and as a result, my training is suffering.  Then, the Holiday Half didn’t go so well, but at least I beat my time from 3 years ago which shouldn’t been hard to do since I was pregnant then.  (More about the Holiday Half tomorrow!)

I had a really tough time recovering after the half marathon.  On Sunday I woke up with this horrible Charlie horse in my thigh I know it’s a direct result from not fueling properly after the race.  Other than a few beers, I didn’t drink any of my usual recovery drinks such as chocolate milk or coconut and I didn’t eat for hours after the race. Stupid move, I know and I definitely paid for it in the middle of the night.

Since my Mondays are Mom Squad days, I’ve also had to readjust my whole marathon training schedule.  But given the whole Charlie horse episode, I also decided against speedwork last week and just went for an easy 3 mile run.

And that was the last time I ran last week, except for my 20 miler on Saturday.  Again, not my proudest marathon training moment, but it happens.  Last week was a really tough week for me emotionally and my training suffered.  I honestly considered postponing my 20 miler until the following week, but my running partners talked me into it.  Sometimes peer pressure does have its benefits.

So, I ran I went into my 20 miler with only 3 miles recorded that week and I was dreading it.  I feared the worst and I warned my running partners that I would be all piss and vinegar and cussing up a storm.

After 5 miles, I had this weird pain in the top of my foot, like my shoelaces were too tight.  I tried to loosen them but things still hurt.  Overall it wasn’t my best, but we finished just under 4 hours and I could walk afterwards.  20 miles in the books!  And even with all those weird foot pains, I found the energy to do a 5-10-15-20 dance with my running partners.

Random Thoughts about a Dirty Girl, Feeling like Alice, a New Challenge and Track Tuesday

It seems people like reading about me being dirty my mud run recaps.  After reading my Pretty Muddy recap, Dirty Girl Mud Run approached me and a few other Tampa Bay Bloggers to race and review how Dirty Girl does a mud run.

Of course, I jumped on the chance to do it and the TBB girls and I already picked our team name: Mud Bloggin’.  But, I have to admit. I’m a little nervous about this one.  I know.  I know.  I said that about the last one, however, I’m not scared of the mud, you see.  That ain’t nothing.  (Spoken like a Dirty Girl gone pro-mud runner.)  I’m nervous about my heels and my reoccurring plantar fasciitis flare-ups.

Dirty Girl Mud Run happens in Tampa on February 9th.  That’s less than a month after the Disney Marathon and a week after the Best Damn Race 10K.  It also happens to be two weeks before my second marathon in Ft. Lauderdale.

Now you see why I’m nervous.  That’s a heavy race load in one month.  The upside: The money I saved on registering for this race can be used to buy a new pair of shoes just for mud runs (because the girlie mud runs seem to be my thing).

And there’s another bonus to choosing to do a Dirty Girl Mud Run.  Much like Pretty Muddy, I can choose not to do certain obstacles.  I can give my plantar fasciitis feet a pass.  And that my friends, is how Run DMT plans to be a Dirty Girl.

Speaking of obstacles, my running partners, Chrissy and Daffodil, prepared a good one for me this weekend.  During our 18 mile run, we took a shortcut to the trail, a worn path parted through shrubs with a slight incline.  I felt like Alice following the White Rabbit as we slipped through the rabbit hole trying not to break an ankle.  It’s all part of my mud run training.

For this week’s 18, we ran through Chrissy’s neighborhood and on the trail and it was a welcomed change.  After we finished Chrissy, had a fabulous runner’s tailgate for us.  Apparently, I’ve set the standard.

These 18 miles were much better than the last and I shaved 9 minutes off my last 18 miler.  Plus, I felt great!  We kept a nice steady pace around 10:15-10:30, walked occasionally and my heels didn’t bother me one bit. Isn’t that awesome?!

Last week was a perfect running week for me and I believe there are two reasons for the lack of pain.  Every time I ran, I wore the Feetures! PF sleeves which I still LOVE.  Last week, I also ran A LOT.  I ran all the miles necessary to meet hit a comfortable, no strain 18 miles.  For me, the key is to run 4-5 times a week and my mid-week should be half the distance of my long run.

My feet are all better and now my Garmin is giving me grief.  Some is wrong with the charging base and it doesn’t always charge properly.  I swear I did ten miles on Wednesday, but my Garmin died around 5.2 miles.  I just doubled the total.

Random Thoughts about a Turkey Trot, Happy Feet, a Happy Dance and Track Tuesday

The last couple of weeks haven’t been the greatest in the running sense.  My heels have been giving me grief and I decided I needed a few days of rest.  No speed work last Tuesday and no running on Wednesday, but on Thanksgiving morning I decided to join the Daily Mile’s Feed the Turkey Virtual Turkey Trot 5K to benefit the Hurricane Sandy victims.

I didn’t push myself and just enjoyed the run along the quiet roads in my ‘hood.  Running on Thanksgiving is always such a treat.  It feels good to burn calories before a feast and the tranquil roads rejuvenate me.  It lifts my spirit and I drift away.

I so needed that run.  And even if my Garmin died just before the 5K, I still loved it.

A few days of rest did me a world of good, because I had a much better run on Saturday for my 14 miles.  For that long run, I tried to keep an easy pace.  Whenever I pushed it, I cussed out Chrissy, Marie and Larisa I felt it in my heels and my left knee.   So, I maintained a 10:00-11:00 pace and I felt great afterwards.

On Small Business Saturday, I dropped a small fortune on new shoes for the whole family at Suncoast Running.  At least I saved 20% on it all!  Thanks to the discount, I finally could afford a new pair of Brooks Trance 11.  Although moving into a wide limits my color choices, at least I can enjoy a pretty turquoise shoe.  I know.  I know.  It’s not about the color.  Whatever.  It totally is about the color and to prove it, expect to see some Sweat Pink hot pink laces on my new kicks.

I also purchased some Feetures! compression sleeves specific for plantar fasciitis.  As soon as I slipped those bad boys on, I immediately felt a difference in my heels.  They ROCKED and you better believe I purchased two!  (They only come one per package.)  Hopefully, I’ll get another pair in my Christmas stocking instead of coal (hint…hint…Santa) because these gems are going to get worn.  Seriously, I need one pair for running and another just for sleeping.  New shoes and compression sleeves make my feet very happy.

Random Thoughts about a Tossed Salad, Being a Local Celebrity and Un-Track Tuesday

FitFluential Is Fitness FoundThings are starting to get real exciting around here!  I’m officially a FitFluential Ambassador!  I am honored to join the ranks of some of the most inspirational and enthusiastic fitness bloggers.

Speaking of fitness blogger, last Saturday I joined a few other local bloggers for a commercial shoot for the Best Damn Race.  I loved hanging with Beth of Discom-BOB-ulated Running and Nicole of Healthy Girl Adventures.

We had one line, “I’m running to blog about it”, but for whatever reason, I couldn’t keep it straight.  I guess I was having too much fun being silly with Beth and Nicole.  Yep, I’m blaming them on my bloopers.  I have no idea when the Best Damn bloopers commercial airs, but when it does, I’ll share it with you all.

On Monday, I joined supermom Marisa of Fit Kids Playground for another edition of the Mom Squad.  This week, we talked ugly babies and turkey.

Joe wanted to know how we handle the Thanksgiving chores.  Since Iron Chef Allan handles most of the Thanksgiving cooking, there’s not much left for me do.  I believe I said, “I’ll toss the salad.”  Yep, that’s what I said.

My husband gasped when he watched the recorded segment.  “You didn’t just say that?  You know what that means, right?”  Once he explained the not-so-pleasant meaning behind “tossing the salad”, I burst out laughing.  Oh. My. GOD!  I can’t believe I said that on television!

Trust me I had no idea about the urban dictionary definition, but once I shared it as a Facebook status, my friends were happy to enlighten me.

I will never be able to look at salad the same way again.  And after that remark, I don’t think anyone will look at moms the same way again.  Well, it was nice being on the Mom Squad while it lasted.

After the segment, Ginger, the morning show anchor, asked if we had been spotted in the supermarket as local celebrities.  “Not yet”, I replied with a toss of my hair.  “But I’ve got my pen ready just in case.”

Although I suppose I’ll be signing bottles of salad dressing instead of supermarket receipts.

However, my dad was more concerned with my appearance rather than what I said.  “What was with your hair?”

“My hair looked like that because I ran to the studio, Dad.”  Whatever.

Last week was a light week for running, but not by choice.  My kids were home sick on Wednesday which meant no mid-week run with the school’s running club.  I was really sad to miss it because we had planned a race for the kids for the last session.

On Saturday, Larisa, Maribel and Chrissy and I ran 18, which was Maribel and Chrissy’s longest ever.  They did GREAT, though I didn’t do as well.  My heels had been bothering and I think my left knee over compensated for the pain because around mile 13 my knee buckled.  Not fun!  I had to slow way down and stretch more often.  I finished the miles, but I was really hurting. Lesson learned: A light running week is never a good idea on a big mile week.

Between volunteering at the Women’s Half Marathon and the Mom Squad, I had two forced rest days.  Thank goodness!

Raffi and I volunteered at the Suncoast Running water station at the Women’s Half Marathon, however, more of the Suncoast Striders and Brian of Digital Running (Raffi’s hubby) joined us this year.

Rather than handing out water, I cheered, danced and rang a cowbell because I need more cowbell.  I loved calling out the ladies’ names and watching their face light up when they noticed me cheering for them.

Since I didn’t wear my glasses, I struggled reading everyone’s race bibs and I apologized for pronouncing a few names wrong.  “Go Joyce!  Er…I mean… Go Lois!”  But mispronounced names may have had more to do mimosas rather than my lack of specs.

Several of my running friends (Daffodil, Marie, Jen H, Marcia and Katrina) participated in the race this year and though I was supposed to be cheering for them, many of the ladies hollered to me as they ran past.  Katrina hollered and waved as she ran by.  Then, Jina of Behold the Turtle gave me shout out too and I ran a bit with her so I could snap a photo of her and her friends.

Since I was still nursing my heels, I skipped on Track Tuesday and ran an easy 4 miles.

A Purple Run to Cure Epilepsy

On a dark, cold early Thursday morning last week, my fellow Suncoast Striders and I officially kicked off our Wear Purple Virtual Run to Cure Epilepsy Marathon.  I was truly touched by the turn-out and the number of people that wore purple to show their support for this cause.  I am blessed to know so many caring, kind people and fortunate enough to call them “my Strider family”.

To show my appreciation to the Striders and their support, I provided a purple tailgate complete with very purple cupcakes and grape Gatorade for our post-run social hour.  Of course, I also brought the typical less purple and sugary runner supplies, such as water and bananas.

Chrissy, Maribel, Jen H and I took an easy pace through the streets of Longleaf.  Although the temperature was cooler than normal, we quickly warmed up and the layers came off revealing our more purple attire underneath.

After two loops through Longleaf, we joined the rest of the Strider gang for our purple run post party.  In the daylight, it dawned on me (Ha! Ha! bad pun) I realized just how many people wore purple. It was a truly an amazing sight!

If you would like to join the Virtual Run/Walk to Cure Epilepsy, there’s still plenty of time.  Register for a 5K or a marathon and then complete the distance on your own time, but be sure to finish it before November 30.  There’s even a purple bib to print out to wear when you cross that virtual finish line.

Random Thoughts about Purple, Green and the Miles in Between and Track Tuesday

In case you haven’t heard, November is all about purple in part to spread epilepsy awareness.  Last week, my running group and I held a Purple Run to show support for this cause.  Expect a Purple Run Recap tomorrow, but in the meantime, if you are interested in joining the Virtual Purple Run for a Cause, you can sign up here.

After Halloween, I purchased purple lights on clearance, but they’ve been sitting on my dining room table.  While I was at the Pretty Muddy on Saturday, my husband hung the purple lights as a surprise.

The purple run and these purple lights are to show our love and support for my niece, Meghan and others who live with epilepsy.

Have you heard about the Slash the ‘Stache challenge?  Last week on Morning Joe on MSNBC, David Axelrod challenged Joe Scarborough to raise $10,000 to CURE (Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy).  Scarborough met the challenge and set a new goal for one million dollars.  You can help Scarborough, Axelrod and CURE reach that goal, by making an online donation here or text the word “RESEARCH” to 501501 to donate $10.

To show her support for CURE’s Slash the ‘Stache challenge, my SIL, Kirsten, created a Slash the Stache group on Facebook to encourage people to post purple ‘staches while raising money and awareness for this cause.  “Like” the page and add your own purple ‘stash with the help of PicMonkey.

Early Monday morning, I had my first green room experience.

Jenny of Metamorfit and I joined Channel 10 News Mom Squad.  During our panel discussion with morning news anchor, Joe Gumm, we offered our opinions and thoughts on hot topics in the news.  Check out me being a goofball at 5:40 in the morning.  As you can tell, I am definitely a morning person.  Can you believe I didn’t drink one drop of coffee?  It was so much fun, but I was so nervous and I had all this nervous energy built up in me.  I needed to run.  Next time, maybe Joe can interview me on a treadmill.

Since I had to be at the Channel 10 Studios at 5:15, Monday was a forced rest day.  Honestly, Pretty Muddy on Saturday, a 12 mile run on Sunday followed by rooftop fitness party hosted by friends at peerFit and all the planks, I couldn’t move and my plantar fasciitis heels were really hurting.  It’s the first time I’ve felt any pain in months which I believe may be a result from running in old shoes at Pretty Muddy.

Random Thoughts about a Purple Run, Pretty Muddy, peerFit, Planks and Track Tuesday

This Thursday, my Suncoast Strider family and I will run a purple 10K for the Wear Purple Virtual Run to Cure Epilepsy.  I am so grateful for the Suncoast Strider’s support for this cause and my niece, Meghan.  The support and kindness from strangers moved my SIL, Kirsten, to tears. Expect a full race recap soon!

This Saturday is the Pretty Muddy.  I tried to find vendors to sponsor my Tampa Bay Blogger team with some Pretty Muddyfun camouflage running skirts but sadly, that didn’t happen.  Maybe next time?  *Hint…hint…to any vendors reading this post.*

Since costumes are encouraged for this event, I thought I would wear my Race for Cure ensemble.  I hated running in that tutu because it was so dang hot and I could care less if I ruin it in the mud.  To save my legs from getting torn up on the ropes, I’ll wear running capris underneath the pink tutu and a pink/black top to match. Of course, a black top may not show off all the mud like a lighter color would, but I really don’t want to ruin my other tops.

In preparation for the Pretty Muddy, my fellow runner girl bloggers and I will preview the course at the Little Everglades Ranch this Friday.  I’m really nervous about the all the mud and the obstacles, but still super excited about the event.  Plus, I finally get to meet Courtney of Journey of a Dreamer, who has been a long time Run DMT reader and coordinated so many pre-Pretty Muddy events here in Tampa.

Also, this weekend is the peerFit meetup in Hyde Park.  I’m excited about that too because it sounds like a lot of fun!  If you’re in the ‘hood on Sunday, come on by!

As for my marathon training, last week was a wasted week with Halloween and Allana’s birthday.  I only ran twice last week.  At least I got my 16 miles in and lived to tell about it and thankfully, I have not experienced any plantar fasciitis pain since I replaced my shoes.  *knock on wood*

I was also grateful that I didn’t have to run 16 miles alone. Chrissy, Maribel and Larisa ran with me in my neighborhood and I thanked them with a runner’s tailgate (a cooler full of orange slices, bananas, water, Gatorade, coconut water and chocolate milk).

Even with all the twists and turns through my neighborhood,  everyone survived with only a few complaints. lol But more importantly, it was Chrissy and Maribel’s LE and they did GREAT!  I am so proud of those girls!!!

This morning, I did my usual speedwork, however, my Garmin was dead because someone (probably me) unplugged the charging station from my computer’s USB port, which totally blows.  I have no idea how I performed this morning, but I did do sprints.  You’ll just have to take my word on it.  I’m sure I rocked it. HA!

Random Tuesday Thoughts about New Challenges, Sweating Purple and Track Tuesday

Stupid Halloween candy!   I was doing so well with the Unprocessed Challenge.  Somehow I survived most of the month avoiding candy corn and chocolate bars.  Then the stupid Halloween candy went on BOGO at my local supermarket and had two very large bags sitting my pantry.  Those fun size candy bars haunted me.

In a moment of weakness, I opened the bag and I ate a bar.  Then, I ate another.  And then, let’s just say I looked like Augustus Gloop falling into the chocolate river.  It wasn’t pretty.  Now, I only have one bag left of my BOGO deal which means I’ll need to buy more candy tonight, however, the new bag will remain sealed until tomorrow evening.  I swear.

Thankfully, that candy won’t be sitting around after Halloween because my kids and I will be participating in the Halloween Candy Buy Back program once again.  The day after Halloween, local dentists collect candy and pay kids for their candy per pound.  Some dentists give toothbrushes too.  The candy is then sent to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.  Check the website to find a dentist near you participating in the program.  It’s such a wonderful way to give and it’s win-win situation for everyone: kids, the troops and it gets the candy out of my house!

Speaking of giving, my kids and I are participating in the 30-Day Giving Challenge for the fourth year.  Basically, every day in November, you have a task of giving a gift which can be something as simple as sending a card or elaborate as working in a soup kitchen.  If you need some ideas or inspiration, see the gifts we’ve given here and here.  This year, I made my own calendar 30 Day Giving Challenge calendar template.  Print it out and fill it gifts you’d like to give and join us in 30-Day Giving Challenge.

November is also Epilepsy Awareness Month and I found this really great virtual race via my SPA sisters.  On
November 1, you can register to Wear Purple Virtual 5K/Marathon to Cure Epilepsy but you have the entire month to accrue the miles.  The registration fee includes a custom medal engraved with the name of the person you run in support of and a seizure first aid wallet card. All proceeds after cost of medal will be donated to the Epilepsy Foundation.  I’ve registered for the marathon in honor of my niece, Meghan who has lived with epilepsy since infancy.

The first day of November will definitely be busy one around here.  Besides, accruing miles for a virtual epilepsy marathon, celebrating my oldest daughter’s 11th birthday and dropping off candy at the dentist, I’m also kicking off a new fitness challenge.  It’s been a while (a few months at least) since I hosted a fitness challenge and I need to do something to survive the holidays.

Starting November 1, I’m kicking the candy to the curb and focusing on the core this month with planks.  So, join me this Thursday as we kick off a fitness challenge called “Thanks for Planks!”  Stop by here on Thursday to learn all the details of the challenge.

And that’s about it.  Phew.  And I thought October was a busy month!

And now for the runs.  I ran 6 miles last Thursday then rested on Friday for the race The Living Dead Challenge the next day.  (Details tomorrow!)

Random Thoughts about Compression Socks, Chocolate Milk and Track Tuesday

I’ve been feeling some soreness in my shins and Achilles, which could be a sign that more stretching is necessary.  Although soreness has me thinking about purchasing a pair of compression socks.  Runner’s World gave a run down on some different brands and their targeted purpose.  I thought I was supposed to wear them while running, but from what my running friends have informed me is that you wear them on your rest days.

Do you wear compression socks?  Do you wear them while running or do you wear them on resting non-running days?  Do you notice a difference in your recovery?

Speaking of recovery, I started drinking chocolate milk after my runs again.  I had completely forgotten about chocolate milk as a recovery drink until Chrissy and I visiting a local Cuban cafe for a pit stop (and a clean restroom) after our long runs.  I would order a café con leche, but Chrissy doesn’t drink coffee so she would order chocolate milk.

As I stated in a previous post, “After an intense work-out or a long distance run, your body becomes depleted of glycogens, therefore, it’s important to replenish those lost minerals with some carbs and proteins.  The potassium, magnesium and calcium found in an 8-ounce glass of chocolate milk offers a substantial amount of minerals needed to rebuild tired muscles and offer some recovery.  Water rehydrates while sports drinks replenish fluids and electrolytes, but chocolate milk rehydrates and rebuilds.”

Can you believe I forgot this?!  Unbelievable!  What woman forgets about chocolate especially chocolate that’s been deemed good for you?

Since I can’t drink protein powder due to the high cholesterol content, I haven’t been drinking muscle repairing recovery drinks.  So last week, I started drinking chocolate milk (8oz skim milk with about two Tbsp of Ovaltine) after my runs again and I really noticed a huge difference.  I felt so much better.  My leg muscles definitely thanked me with less cramping and tightness.  I felt less tightness and soreness in my heels, shins and Achilles.  Plus, it will help with my vitamin D deficiency.

One insane week of hubby traveling down and one more to go.  Last week, I wasn’t able to run as much as I wanted to thanks to hubby’s travel schedule.  Thankfully, so far this week I’ve been able to fit in a little better.  Chrissy and I also need to run 12 miles in on Friday morning before I leave for Girl Scout camp.

Chrissy and I ran 14 miles last Saturday, which was her longest ever.  She’s doing so great with her marathon training.  I’m so proud of her!

Today is Track Tuesday.  I missed last week’s speedwork session due to DH’s traveling, but it probably was a well-deserved break.  The weather change was a welcomed break too.  Since the mornings over the past week have been cooler with little humidity, it finally feels like fall.  Though my lungs love the change weather, my legs don’t seem to care about it because the cooler weather didn’t change my speed at all.  However, I changed my usual speedwork session with a light jog between sprints so maybe that affected my overall performance.

Random Thoughts about Sweating Pink and Track Tuesday

Looks like I’ll be sweating twice as much pink these days.  On top of running in the Race for a Cure 10K again this year, yours truly has joined the ranks of Sweat Pink Amabassadors.

“Sweat Pink Ambassadors live the Fit Approach mission every day: they sweat hard, play hard, and inspire those around them to achieve their best selves.”

I like to think that’s what I do: sweat hard, play hard and inspire others to do the same.  In my short time with my SPA sisters, I’ve been so welcomed, supported and encouraged and I solemnly swear to do the same for others.

Last week, I inspired my daughters to move by volunteering to be part of their school’s running club again this year.  As my girls’ coach, I set a goal for my ten year old to run at least 15 laps (equivalent to 3 miles) and my 7 year old to run 10 laps (2 miles) in the hour long after-school program.  Both girls have had to run these distances in the past so it should come easy.  Or at least I hope so.  I hope that they eventually become a bit faster and run more laps than I had set.

However, since I’m running with them, what does that mean for me?  Well, since I will be running anywhere from 2-3 miles with my kids, I’ll scale down my miles in the morning.  In other words, I’ll try to keep that mid-week morning tempo run around 3-4 miles to not overdo it.

I’m a week behind in my marathon training due to the triathlon two weeks ago and my girlfriend getaway last weekend.  However, my running partners are planning to run another 12 miles this week, so I guess I caught up with everyone else.

As for my marathon plan, I’m following a hybrid plan between Hal Higdon’s Intermediate 2 and Advanced 2.  I like the speedwork and tempo runs of the advanced plan and I like the cross training day in the Intermediate 2 plan, but I like the amount of running in both plans, except I’m scaling it down to run 4-5 days a week instead of six days.  I like my cross training and forced rest days but let’s be honest; it’s hard for a mom to run more than that.

You know what’s really hard?  It’s really hard getting out of bed after a long weekend binge drinking with your girlfriends.  We had a few good runs on the beach while away (more about that in another post), but once back home, I was too tired to move on Monday.

But today is Track Tuesday.  So, I had to get out of bed to do my speedwork.  No excuses.  But maybe one more quick snooze… or two.  I did my usual 1 mile warm-up followed by 4 x 0.25 mile sprints and another mile cool down, but mentally my body was still in bed.
